The passing of ‘Meatloaf’ earlier this week (20th January 2022) instantly reminded me of a very personal chapter in ‘Mastering the Wolf’. I grew up in the 70’s listening to the likes of Meatloaf, Queen and Bowie. I love music and some of the words in their songs subconsciously become part of the soundtrack of my life.
The song, for me anyway, is about the blurring, or even confusion, between lust and love between a man and a woman. Part of my book is devoted to a relationship that was toxic and destructive. It got to the stage that I chose to work away during the week, and dreaded going home on Friday. So much so I used to play ‘Paradise by the dashboard light’ at full blast when driving along the motorway.
The following words were the ones that chimed the most though, “I’m praying for the end of time. It’s all that I can do. Praying for the end of time,. So I can end my time with you!”. It was one of the worst times of my life and there were times that it felt that there was no way out, thankfully there was and it is now in the past. I did get my wish in the end but not quite in the way I expected. I’m afraid you will have to buy the book to find out the full story. Not long now because launch date is less than four weeks away.
RIP Meatloaf, it often felt like you were in the car with me when I was singing at the top of my voice.
