Does anyone remember the Anadin advert, tense?, nervous?, headache? Take a tablet and all will be OK? Sticking plaster stuff, and for anyone that suffers (or has suffered) with any stress related illness you need much more.
Anyone that works in any of the emergency services or armed forces is likely to be subjected to trauma at some point, it is part of the job. I’m no mental health professional but I have a passing interest in it because of my own experiences (pretty minor in all honesty) and because I care about those individuals who work in that environment.
Doing some self-care from time to time can help and there are things you can do that are inexpensive or free!
These are a few of the things I have found really helpful.
Wim Hof has been in the news of late, but has been around a long time. His methods which include breathing and cold showering are brilliant, I’ve been doing the latter for over two years now. There is a Smartphone App available too, but if you want to know a bit more before downloading it, check out his video here;
PQ Performance run by Isle of Man based Phil Quirk have a video about The Aether Principle. Again, breath related and leads you into self hypnosis. Very relaxing and I will be surprised if you don’t feel great after doing it. Here’s the video;
Caroline Purvey from TRE-UK did a live session with me (you can find it on the MTW Facebook page). It would be remiss of me not to mention her technique. TRE is scientifically proven to address issues around anxiety, stress, depression and all round health. Caroline also offers a 30 min free consultation, highly recommended!
You can find out more about her approach over on here website here – https://treuk.com/
